Worldwide energy distribution and retailer, driving over 6B in annual revenues, with 30,000 employees worldwide and 2000 employees in Australia.

The problem

The distributed applications supporting remote and core sites was deeply in need of modernization and upgrade. Due to a large number of remote sites and users, supporting user application and data services became problematic. In addition to an aging hardware fleet, several core applications were running on unsupported operating systems and presented continual availability challenges.

Project outcomes/solutions

GlassHouse provided full lifecycle workspace modernization services including desktop virtualization high level design, detailed design and implementation planning plan, technology deployment, user services rollout for virtual desktop services country-wide.

The core Citrix technology solution included a hybrid solution of application and desktop virtualization technologies. In addition to consolidated compute infrastructure deployments, a new network load balancing and application firewall solution was designed and integrated with the existing customer network environment. The remote site infrastructure transitioned from a traditional ‘fat-client’ workspace model to a thin-client model with remote application services delivery.

The result of the project allowed lower cost workspace services, with increased agility and time to delivery, with robust improvements to support and security. In addition the tier-1 outsourcer’s time to deliver new workspace services was significantly reduced.
